<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating packing ring assembly for use in a turbomachine to avoid transient rubs. <P>SOLUTION: There is disclosed a packing ring assembly 100 for use between a rotating component 102 and a stationary component 104 in a turbomachine. The assembly includes: an arcuate packing ring casing 106; an arcuate packing ring segment 110 positioned at least partially within the packing ring casing 106; and a resistance component 118 configured to allow movement of the packing ring segment 110 in an axial direction, relative to the rotating component 102, between a first and second position in response to a pressure condition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
