RUBBER COMPOSITION FOR TIRE TREAD

PURPOSE: A rubber composition for a tire tread is provided, to improve the braking power on a wet road by employing the modified polystyrene graft copolymerized with hydroxyethyl methacrylate. CONSTITUTION: The rubber composition comprises 2-25 parts by weight of the modified polystyrene obtained by graft copolymerizing hydroxyethyl methacrylate; 75-98 parts by weight of a natural rubber, a synthetic rubber or their mixture; and 10-50 parts by weight of an extension oil. Preferably the rubber composition comprises further 40-140 parts by weigh of carbon black as a reinforcement based on 100 parts by weight of the rubber component. Optionally, the rubber composition comprises further 0-10 parts by weight of zinc oxide as a curing activator; 0.5-7 parts by weight of a curing agent selected from the group consisting of sulfur, insoluble sulfur, tetramethyl thiuram sulfide and tetrabutyl thiuram sulfide; and 0.5-6 parts by weight of a curing accelerator selected from thiazole and sulfenamide.
