The present invention relates to a system and to a method for outputting content in a converged personal network service (CPNS) environment, which comprise a user terminal and a content playback terminal. The user terminal: searches for a CPNS-supporting content playback terminal; receives content information from the searched content playback terminal and downloads at least one portion of pre-stored content to the content playback terminal so as to share content with the content playback terminal; and requests the playback of content which was selected by the user from the shared content. The content playback terminal: is connected to the user terminal through a short range wireless communication network to share content with the user terminal; outputs content through external speakers according to a content playback request from the user terminal, or decodes the content; and then converts the content to FM data, transmits the FM data to a content output apparatus, and outputs the contents through same. Also included is a content output apparatus that decodes the FM data from the content processing terminal and outputs the decoded data. The system and method also comprise: a wireless communication unit for performing communication through a short range wireless communication network; an input unit for receiving commands input by a user; a storage unit for storing content; a download processing unit for downloading content from at least one user terminal located in the same network in accordance with CPNS communication regulations, and transmitting content stored in the storage unit to the user terminal so as to share the content with the user terminal; and a playback unit for decoding and outputting corresponding content upon request through the input unit for content playback. Thus, according to the present invention, when a content playback terminal is connected to input terminals of existing external speakers, the speakers can be used as internet speakers to thereby allow a user to listen to content over a network in a richer sounding environment. Further, after the content of a CPNS-supporting terminal is received through a short range communication network such as a WiFi network, the content of various CPNS-supporting terminals can easily be heard in vehicles because FM transmitting is enabled, thereby providing a convenient environment for users.
