<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external environment recognition device for a vehicle, which can prevent reflected light from a reflector and the like from being misidentified as light from an oncoming vehicle even on a road having no white lines or navigation information, and a light distribution control system using the device. <P>SOLUTION: The external environment recognition device for the vehicle includes: an image acquisition part for acquiring an image taken by imaging a view ahead of the vehicle in question; a light source extraction part for extracting a light source from the image; a vehicle speed acquisition part for acquiring a speed of the vehicle in question; a possible oncoming vehicle presence area estimation part for estimating a possible oncoming vehicle presence area on the basis of the speed of the vehicle in question; and an oncoming vehicle detecting part for detecting the oncoming vehicle on the basis of the possible oncoming vehicle presence area and the light source. The possible oncoming vehicle presence area estimation part estimates the possible oncoming vehicle presence area on the basis of the speed of the vehicle in question, a minimum radius of curvature of a travel route based on a predetermined limited vehicle speed, and traffic information relating to right-hand traffic or left-hand traffic on the travel route. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
