IMPROVEMENT IN BARRIER INTEGRITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for improving intestinal barrier integrity by decreasing permeability of a tight junction and at the same time stimulating preparation of a mucous membrane.

SOLUTION: The composition contains: (a) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA), wherein the content of long-chain polyvalent unsaturated aliphatic acids having 20 to 22 carbon atoms is not more than 15 wt.% of the whole fat content; and (b) fructan selected from a group consisting of fructo-oligosaccharide, inulin and a mixture of these.
