摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure a more appropriate state of an internal combustion engine when opening and closing timing of an intake valve is changed to predetermined timing during the rotation of the internal combustion engine at the time of stopping the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: When the most retarded angle processing, the opening and closing timing of the intake valve being changed to the most retarded angle, is executed, and a catalyst temperature Tc is not less than a threshold Tcref and air-fuel ratio AF is less than a threshold AFref, an engine which has stopped fuel injection is motored (S110-S130). When the catalyst temperature Tc is less than the threshold Tcref, the air-fuel ratio AF is not less than the threshold AFref (S110, S120), or estimated time required td is less than a threshold tdref, an engine is idled (S180, S190).
