<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outside micrometer that allows anybody to easily, speedily, and accurately measure an external diameter of a body to be measured without reference to surface roughness of an outer peripheral surface of the body to be measured and skill of an operator, and prevents the outer peripheral surface of the body to be measured from being damaged. <P>SOLUTION: An outside micrometer 1 which measures the external diameter of the body in a cylindrical or columnar shape to be measured includes a frame 3 having an arm 2 in a U shape in plan view, a dial gauge 5 fitted to one end of the frame 3, and a spindle 7 provided to the other end of the frame 3 so as to move to and away from a gauge head 6 of the dial gauge 5.
