<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which includes a thin wavelength conversion layer and has high luminous efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: An optical member 14 is superposed on a light emitting element 11 while an uncured base paste 13 in which a particulate spacer 13b having a predetermined particle size and phosphor particles 13a having a particle size smaller than that of the particulate spacer are dispersed is sandwiched therebetween. Thus, the particulate spacer 13b is sandwiched between an upper surface of the light emitting element and a lower surface of the optical member to form the uncured base paste layer 13 determined by the particle size of the particulate spacer 13b.
