<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tire tread, which strikes a balance between low rolling resistance and wear resistance and has improved chipping resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition is obtained by blending 30-60 pts.wt of carbon black relative with 100 pts.wt of diene-based rubber containing 50-95 wt.% of natural rubber and/or isoprene rubber and 5-50 wt.% of butadiene rubber. The butadiene rubber has: a weight average molecular weight of 700,000 to 900,000; a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 1.5 to 3.0, the molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) being obtained from the weight average molecular weight (Mw) and the number-average molecular weight (Mn); and a viscosity of a toluene solution at 25°C of 300 to 1,000 mPa s.
