PURPOSE: A method for updating a SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card by using a public mobile communication network is provided to allow a mobile communication network provider to generate an MM(Mobility Management) information message composed of SIM card update data, and to transmit the message to a mobile communication terminal, so that a controller of the mobile communication terminal updates corresponding data in the SIM card through the SIM card update data. CONSTITUTION: A transmitted MM information message is received to a mobile communication terminal through an RF(Radio Frequency) part(S1). A controller of the mobile communication terminal discriminates whether SIM card update data are detected from the MM information message(S2). If so, the controller transmits the SIM card update data and a SIM card update request message to a microprocessor of an installed SIM card(S3), and if not, the steps are ended. The microprocessor detects a file for correction from a memory chip of the SIM card, and inputs a value of SIM card update data for correction in the detected file, to update the SIM card data(S4). The microprocessor discriminates whether SIM card is reset(S5). If so, the microprocessor restarts loading of the SIM card data(S6), and if not, the steps are ended.
