PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and safely producing a coniferyl alcohol polymerization compound having strong anticancer activity, an anticancer agent containing the coniferyl alcohol polymerization compound and a food or medicine containing the coniferyl alcohol polymerization compound.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the coniferyl alcohol polymerization compound represented by formula (1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof includes forming the compound by heat-treating coniferyl alcohol under an alkali condition. The anticancer agent and the food or medicine contain the coniferyl alcohol polymerization compound represented by formula (1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
