<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic feeding device in which a recording material storage part for housing a recording material is insertably/extractably provided and which enhances operability when the recording material storage part is inserted/extracted. <P>SOLUTION: When an output signal of a cassette sensor 47 is in an OFF-state (step S1:Yes), that is, when a feeding cassette 31 is in an extracted state or when an operation, in which a user extracts the feeding cassette 31 in a predetermined position, is detected, it is determined whether a feeding roller 22 is in a receding position (step S2).
