An electrically driven vehicle having a rotating electric machine small-sized and whose power generating characteristics and torque output characteristics can be changed and set to those appropriate for a vehicle condition. The electrically driven vehicle has a rotating shaft (11, 150, 200), a rotor (13, 170, 220) rotating with the rotating shaft, and a stator (12, 160, 210) provided opposite the rotor with a predetermined gap in between. The rotor and the stator are provided with a rotating electric machine (10, 140, 190) constructed such that an air gap length functioning as magnetic resistance is adjustable and with a vehicle condition detecting section (60, 110) for detecting a vehicle condition. The air gap length is adjusted according a signal representing a vehicle condition.
