PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition for ball point pens which stably controls the friction at the ball-holding part caused by the rotation of the ball for a long time, shows a good ink flow, does not cause handwriting to blur nor to skip and gives a smooth writing feel and a good handwriting and a ball point pen filled with the ink composition. SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition for ball point pens containing at least a colorant, a water-soluble organic solvent includes an estolide which is an oxyfatty acid oligomer of not smaller than a dimer in which fatty acids having a hydroxyl group are condensed with each other or a fatty acid having a hydroxyl group and a fatty acid not having a hydroxyl group are condensed.
