PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which exactly discriminates photographs/figures contained in input image data among printed photographs, printing paper photographs, printer output photographs, etc. SOLUTION: The image processor comprises an original kind automatic determiner 13 having a dot pixel detector 23 for deciding whether each pixel of input image data or a block of a plurality of pixels belongs to a dot area; a background base pixel detector 22 for deciding whether each pixel of the input image data or a block of a plurality of pixels belongs to a background base area; and a photograph kind decider 27 for deciding which photographs are contained in the input image data among printed photographs composed of dots, continuous-tone printing paper photographs and printer output photographs from printers, on the basis of the ratio of the detected dot pixels or dot blocks to other pixels or blocks in the input data than the detected background base pixels or background base blocks.
