A reciprocating mechanism for a spinning reel is provided to restrain generation of a ratting noise between a shaft portion and a recessed portion using an engaging member so that the recessed portion supports the engaging member. The reciprocating mechanism reciprocates a spool fixedly installed on a spool shaft(15), which is movably mounted on a reel body of a spinning reel in forward and backward directions, according to a rotation of a master gear, and includes a spiral shaft(21) rotated by the rotating of the master gear and having a spiral groove(21a), a sliding member(22) having a body member(22a) and an engaging member(22b), a guide portion installed on the reel body, and a rotation transmitting portion for transmitting the rotation of the master gear to the spiral shaft.
