An apparatus for controlling a display device is provided to control respective backlights, which are used for an LCD realizing a wide screen, according to environment or operation conditions, thereby achieving power-saving effect. An LCD(10) has a plurality of backlights(20,30). A power source unit(70) supplies electric power to the backlights. A switch unit(80) supplies or shuts off the electric power from the power source unit to the backlights. A controller(50) controls the switch unit to operate the backlights selectively. An image is displayed on the entire portion or a portion of the LCD according to selective operation of the controller. |
