PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner that can simplify the conditions required for determining a suitable refrigerant quantity. SOLUTION: A refrigerant circuit 10 performs cooling operation with an outdoor heat exchanger 23 functioning as a condenser of a refrigerant compressed in a compressor 21 and with indoor heat exchangers 42, 52 functioning as evaporators of the refrigerant condensed in the outdoor heat exchanger 23. An outdoor expansion valve 38 is arranged in the downstream of the outdoor heat exchanger 23 and in the upstream of liquid refrigerant communicating piping 6 in the flow direction of the refrigerant in the refrigerant circuit 10 in performing the cooling operation to interrupt passage of the refrigerant. A refrigerant detecting part 39 is arranged in the upstream of the outdoor expansion valve 38 to detect the quantity of the refrigerant staying in the upstream of the outdoor expansion valve 38.
