PURPOSE: A driving apparatus and a method of a display device are provided to reduce the power consumption in the signal controller of a liquid crystal display by deactivating a data transmission clock. CONSTITUTION: A signal controller(600) receives an image signal, a horizontal synchronization signal, and a vertical synchronization signal. A data driver receives a data driving signal. The data driving signal is outputted from a signal controller. The data transmission clock is deactivated in the horizontal blank region of the horizontal synchronization signal. A data transmission clock is inputted to a plurality of driver circuit blocks(620) in the signal controller. The selection signal line(30) of a clock multiplexer(610) receives a selection signal.
