FIELD: biochemistry. ^ SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a -galactosidase with transgalactosylating activity with the sequence provided in the description and the relative coding DNC. A recombinant vector incorporating the DNA sequence and a host cell comprising the DNA sequence or the vector are also disclosed. The enzyme with transgalactosylating activity is proposed for producing a mixture of oligosaccharides comprising disaccharides, trisaccharides, tetrasaccharides and pentasacchrides.
