The device has a sampling bag (12) deployable between a retracted position in which inner volume of the bag is zero and a deployed position in which the bag defines the inner volume for storage of ambient air. A sensor (23) e.g. hydrogen sulfide sensor, measures concentration of ambient air in a preset compound. A rapid deployment unit is formed of a lower disk (15), a compression spring and a vacuum pump to deploy the bag. A programmable logic controller (21) triggers the filling of bag, and is provided for deployment of the bag when concentration of air is greater than preset threshold.
