A storage apparatus and a control method are provided to detect coil vibration generated during seek and perform a control based on the vibration detected signal so that a head position error signal is reduced. A storage apparatus comprises an actuator(56), a plurality of sensors(50) attached to the actuator for detecting coil vibration at the time of actuator drive and outputting a vibration detected signal, and a control unit for controlling the actuator to reduce a head position error signal based on the vibration detected signal of the sensor at the time of seek or settling to move and draw the head to a target track position on the recording medium. The actuator supports a head at one end of a rotatably supported shaft unit(58) and a coil(62) of a voice coil motor on the other end, and moves the head to an arbitrary track position of the recording medium.
