<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backing strip for arc welding, configured so as to inhibit reliably the generation of weld defects such as gaps generated in a starting portion of welding, especially in a bottom region of a groove portion adjacent to an end tab. <P>SOLUTION: The backing strip for arc welding is provided with: a backing strip body with a length corresponding to a length of a groove portion; an approach forming portion prepared so as to extend outside from an end portion of at least one side of the backing strip body, and to form an approach portion of an initial layer of molten metal; and functional grooves provided in a back surface of a critical portion of the backing strip body and the approach forming portion, or a region near the critical region of the approach forming portion, so as to extend in a width direction, capable of being utilized for separating the approach forming portion after welding, and also for not transferring stress probably generated in the approach forming portion by earthquakes or the like. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
