PURPOSE: A display apparatus and control method thereof are provided to automatically control maximum brightness according to a kind of images. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(10) displays a two-dimensional image or a three-dimensional image. A brightness control unit(20) controls the brightness of an image displayed on the display unit. A control unit(50) changes the maximum brightness of the display unit by determining the two-dimensional image or the three-dimensional image which displayed on the display unit.
