<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of obtaining a high-quality image by appropriate defect correction. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes a defect determination circuit 14 which is defect determination means. The defect determination means determines whether a pixel of interest is a defect or not, on the basis of the pixel value of the pixel of interest and pixel values of peripheral pixels. The peripheral pixels are pixels for the same color as the pixel of interest and are located at the periphery of the pixel of interest. The defect determination means include a first determination means 21, a second determination means 22 and a third determination means 23. The first determination means 21 performs defect determination by comparing the maximum and minimum values of the pixel values of the peripheral pixels with the pixel value of the pixel of interest. The second determination means 22 performs defect determination on the basis of illumination light components of the pixel values of the peripheral pixels.
