The light source device in which a first light source lamp, a second light source lamp and a relay optical system are arranged so that there is no part where an optical axis of a first light flux from the first light source lamp through a relay optical system to an entrance end of a light intensity equalizing element and an optical axis of a second light flux from the second light source lamp to the entrance end agree with each other, and the optical axis of the first light flux immediately before incidence on the entrance end and the optical axis of the second light flux from the second light source lamp to the entrance end are substantially parallel to each other.
