<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize weight balance of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle drive device 100 comprises: a motor 2 positioned almost in the center of a vehicle 1; a differential speed change gear 4 positioned in the rear part of the vehicle; and a drive force transmission mechanism 3 for transmitting output of the motor to the differential speed change gear. The differential speed change gear is coupled to a rear wheel 6 which becomes a drive wheel. The motor 2 is a flat type motor and is positioned under a front seat. As the motor is made into the flat type motor, its height is sufficiently low, a vehicle height is reduced, and a center of gravity can be lowered.
