<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the amount of evaporative emission purge (amount of evaporative emission purged to an engine intake system) while securing a fuel consumption saving effect by engine idle stop control. <P>SOLUTION: When the automatic stop of an engine 11 is required, purge control during an idle stop purging the evaporative emission to the engine intake system by opening a purge control valve 40 is performed during a period from the requirement of the automatic stop to the stop of the rotation of the engine 11. Thereby, a purge control execution time is secured without prohibiting the idle stop control. Furthermore, in the purge control during the idle stop, a target purge flow rate is set according to a catalytic state (amount of oxygen adsorbed in a catalyst 25 and catalyst temperature), an evaporative emission concentration, and engine speed, and the opening of the purge control valve 40 is controlled so as to achieve the target purge flow rate.
