PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercom system in which, when a living room master unit is in "at-home" mode and a video signal from an entrance slave unit is cut off, a television receiver on the market can be powered off and when the living room master unit is in absence mode and a video signal from the entrance slave unit is cut off, a recorder on the market can be powered off. SOLUTION: In an intercom system which is constituted of an entrance slave unit and a living room master unit and in which a video signal or an audio signal from the entrance slave unit is outputted to a television receiver or a recorder, the living room master unit comprises a remote control section for controlling the television receiver or the recorder, when a calling signal from the entrance slave unit is received; a mode switching section for switching between at-home mode and absence mode; and a CPU which performs control to send a display start signal from the remote control section to the television receiver, when the living room master unit is in the at-home mode and is called from the entrance slave unit, and sends a recording start signal, from the remote control section to the recorder, when the living room master unit is in the absence mode and called from the entrance slave unit.
