PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely secure proper lamp gain. SOLUTION: When a lamp serial code belonging to an exchanged lamp is input, a projector judges the validity by executing check sum confirmation processing (step S3 Yes, S4). When the projector confirms that it is a valid code (step S5 Yes), the projector determines a range overlapped by a range (hereinafter referred to as a code range) from the minimum watt (min watt) to the maximum watt (max watt) included in the lamp serial code and a range (mode range) from the minimum output watt to the maximum output watt in a set lamp mode as a lamp drive control range for controlling the drive of a lamp power source part (step S7 or step S10).
