The invention relates to a passive entry system for a vehicle comprising an ID tag (14) for a user outside the vehicle and a vehicle door handle (1) having wireless communication means (10) for communicating with the tag and a tag proximity detector, characterized in that the proximity detector consists of the wireless communication means which are designed to detect the presence or absence of mutual inductance between said communication means, which act as a first coil (12), and a tag, which acts as a second coil (16), and to anticipate communication with the tag detected as present, before any action on the door handle.
