An optical proximity sensor module comprising: a housing; an integrated light emitter configured to emit light; a diffractive optical element positioned in front of the light emitter and configured to direct light emitted by the light emitter towards a target volume in front of the diffractive optical element; and an integrated light detector configured to detect light reflected from a proximal object at the target volume.
