<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide device that reduces an insertion loss and facilitates phase control with a configuration suitable for monolithic integration. <P>SOLUTION: An optical waveguide device includes: a multimode interference coupler that converts an input optical signal into a pair of first optical signals having an in-phase relationship, a pair of second optical signals having an in-phase relationship and a pair of third optical signals having an in-phase relationship, and outputs the three pairs of optical signals; a first optical coupler and a second optical coupler that are connected to two pairs out of the three pairs of optical signals output from the multimode interference coupler, topologically rotate one pair out of the two pairs of optical signals -60 degrees to a phase relationship of remaining one pair of optical signals out of the three pairs of optical signals and topologically rotate the other pair out of the two pairs of optical signals 60 degrees to a phase relationship of remaining one pair of optical signals; and a phase shifter that is inserted between the multimode interference coupler and at least one of the first optical coupler and the second optical coupler, and regulates a relative phase difference of at least one of the two pairs of optical signals. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
