<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that hardly causes image failure along a passing trajectory of a rotating member when the rotating member made of a conductive material is brought into contact with an inner surface of a transfer belt to enhance separation performance for a recording material. <P>SOLUTION: A recording material recognizing device 70 discriminates separating property of a recording material P with respect to a transfer belt 10. A control unit 60 brings a separation assist roller 41 into contact with the transfer belt 10 when the recording material has low separating property such as a thin paper, so as to induce waves in the transfer belt 10 in the width direction and forming ribs in the recording material P in a conveying direction, which temporarily enhances flexure stiffness in the conveying direction and facilitates separation from the transfer belt 10. The separation assist roller 41 is formed of a conductive material and has grooves formed on a cylindrical face thereof to be in contact with the transfer belt 10, the grooves being continuous in the thickness direction with a depth of 150 μm or less and formed at a pitch of 300 μm or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
