A wireless communication system comprises: a macrocell base station that can communicate with radio terminals via one of a plurality of carrier frequencies; and a femtocell base station that is disposed in the macrocell in which the macrocell base station can communicate with the radio terminals and that can communicate with the radio terminals, via one of the plurality of carrier frequencies, either in an access limiting mode in which only particular radio terminals can access the femtocell base station or in a hybrid mode in which the access to the femtocell base station is not limited to the particular radio terminals. The femtocell base station comprises: a measurement unit that measures a total power of upstream receptions from the radio terminals; a detection unit that detects, on the basis of the total power of upstream receptions, a visitor macrocell radio terminal located in the vicinity of the femtocell base station operating in the access limiting mode; and a control unit that, when the detection unit detects the visitor macrocell radio terminal, switches the femtocell base station from the access limiting mode to the hybrid mode. Therefore, the throughput of the visitor macrocell user can be improved. |
