The system has a compressor (6) for supplying air to a cathode region (3) of a fuel cell (2). A catalytic burner (13) burns exhaust gas in an anode region (4) of the fuel cell and/or fuel. An air inlet pipe (22) is placed between the burner and the compressor in a flow direction directly or indirectly subsequent to compressor components. Hot exhaust gases of the burner flow from the cathode region of the fuel cell. The components of the compressor are arranged in the flow direction in front of the cathode region of the fuel cell.
