The present invention provides a Cr-based coating treated article provided with a multilayer coating (18) comprising an inner film (14) and an outer film (16) on the surface of the base material (12) of the article. The outer film (16) is formed by a Cr-based oxide with an atom ratio of 1/3?Cr/O?1/1, and the inner film (14) is formed by one or more layers comprising a Cr-based compound with an atom ratio of Cr/O>1/1 and/or pure Cr (the Cr ratio is higher in the film closer to the base material.). When used for molds and the like, this Cr-based coating treated article has betters frictional resistance, heat resistance (oxidation resistance), and mold releasability (water repellency) comparing with conventional chrome electrodeposition coating.
