A variable locking fastener has a head portion with external threads of a harder material than that which forms the through opening of the Insert so that the threads of the fixator will deform the insert to lock the fixator In a desired position relative to the implant. The implant system further includes at least one of a fixed angle locking fastener and or a variable angle non-locking fastener, as well as a fastener driver that has a variable angle drive tip and a depth limiting sleeve.
