<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terminal capable of switching between a call state and a hold state without forcing a user to perform an operation of button depression. <P>SOLUTION: A terminal device for transmitting/receiving voice to/from another terminal device includes: an illuminance sensor for measuring illuminance and quantifying the measured illuminance as an illuminance value; a storage unit for storing the quantified illuminance value; a handset which is held by a user with a hand and has a transmitter/receiver for transmitting or receiving voice; and a control unit for comparing the illuminance value stored in the storage unit and an illuminance value newly quantified by the illuminance sensor and switching from one to the other between a call state and a hold state on the basis of the comparison.
