The reflectron has a reflectron stage (10) for generating an electric field, where the stage includes three sets of serially arranged electrodes (11-13) having different thicknesses (d1-d3). The first and second sets of electrodes are arranged alternating to each other. The thickness of the third set of electrodes is half of the thickness of the first set of electrodes, and greater than the thickness of the second set of electrodes. The thickness of the second set of electrodes is less than 0.6mm, and the thickness of the first set of electrodes is greater than 12mm and/or less than 20mm. An independent claim is also included for a flight time mass spectrometer comprising an ion source.
