<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform removal of sizing agent, scouring and moreover bleaching if necessary under a mild condition to a fiber material including cellulosic fiber or animal fiber so as to provide a fiber material having excellent water absorptive performance and dyeability and high strength. <P>SOLUTION: A fiber material is immersed in an acid treatment liquid (preferably pH=3-6) including amylase enzyme and a surfactant so as to perform removal of sizing agent and scouring for removing impurity simultaneously. Next, the fiber material to which removal of sizing agent and scouring have been performed is immersed in a hydrogen peroxide solution including sodium carbonate and with pH set to be 9-11 so as to perform bleaching.
