<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image encoder and a moving image encoding method capable of reducing an operation amount required for motion vector detection processing for a B picture. <P>SOLUTION: A moving image encoder includes a pre-detector to detect a reduced motion vector by comparing reduced images of an encoding target image and a reference image, a main detector to detect a motion vector based on the reduced motion vector, a condition determination section to determine whether a prescribed condition is satisfied or not by the reduced motion vectors each detected by the pre-detector corresponding to a forward reference image to be referred to in forward prediction and a backward reference image to be referred to in backward prediction, for an encoding target B picture, and a vector calculation section to calculate a reduced motion vector for the encoding target B picture, based on the reduced motion vector detected corresponding to the forward reference image and the reduced motion vector detected corresponding to the backward reference image, when the prescribed condition is determined satisfied, and use the calculated reduced motion vector for processing of the main detector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
