PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance water purification performance by enabling effective use of the whole granular filter medium filling a filter medium filling space by preventing the deterioration of the granular filter medium density at the open end side in the axis direction of the filter medium filling space.

SOLUTION: The granular filter medium 11 fills the cylindrical filter medium filling space 10 formed between the inner surface of an inner cylindrical filter tube 8 and the outer surface of an outer cylindrical filter tube 9 and provided with one end in the axis direction closed and the other end opened. A lid 15 for closing the filter medium filling space 10 is provided attachably to the open end side in the axis direction of the filling space 10. The lid 15 attached to the open end side in the axis direction of the filling space 10 has projections 17 projecting into the filter medium filling space 10 side, leaving some discontinuous spaces 17a discontinuous in the radial direction of the filling space 10.
