<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handwriting input system which can be used even if a position coordinate encoding medium is superposed on a sheet with a required print by ink absorbing detecting light, and hardly deteriorate display quality even when applied to a display device or the like having a pixel structure, and an electronic pen device and the position coordinate encoding medium applied thereto. <P>SOLUTION: A position coordinate encoding medium 1 comprises a dot pattern 3 for scattering detecting light formed on a base member 2 which transmits, absorbs or reflects the detecting light.
