<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device that applies an electrical field to a charged material, having a means to reduce an afterimage. <P>SOLUTION: A display element having a pixel electrode, a charged layer, and a counter electrode is assigned to a plurality of pixels. A different electrical potential is applied to each of neighboring pixel electrodes during a pixel initialization period. Consequently, an electrical field is generated not only in a vertical direction of the pixel electrode but also in a parallel direction (in the direction of end face of the pixel electrode), so that a charged material in the charged layer is agitated to be prevented from aggregation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
