An apparatus and a method for an automatic jar test are provided to increase convenience and precision of measurement of the optimal feeding amount of a coagulant, and to reduce measurement time by performing a measuring process repetitively and automatically. An apparatus for an automatic jar test includes a plurality of jars(110), a pump part(120), an agitator(130), a turbidity measuring part(140), an operating part(150), and a control part(160). A window(111) and an outlet(112) are formed on each jar. The pump part includes a raw water feed pump(121), a coagulant feed pump(122), and a water feed pump(123). The turbidity measuring part includes a light source part(141) emitting light with supernatants formed on an upper part of the jar and a sensing part(142) detecting the amount of the light differacted by the supernatants.
