Fuel briquette

A process for the production of a fuel briquette comprising the steps of: ```providing wood and grinding/shredding to piece sizes screened to about 100 mm; ```torrefying the wood in an oven in an oxygen-controlled atmosphere at a temperature of about 300{C for sufficient time to reduce the volatile matter content of the wood to about 40% by weight; ```crushing the torrefled wood to a particle size screened to less than 10 mm; providing coal and optionally petroleum coke crushed to piece sizes screened to less than 5 mm and dried to moisture content less than 10% by weight ```mixing the components together in the following proportions to form a briquette feedstock: briquetting the feedstock and curing in a reduced oxygen environment at about 300 {C.
