According to an embodiment, a method for operating a switching mode power supply includes a step of controlling a first switch connected between an inductor and a reference node. The controlling step includes a step of modulating a first current flowing along the first switch into a first switching signal controlling a predetermined current, and a step of attenuating a current supplied to the inductor by the first switch according to an attenuation ratio for generating the attenuated current. The attenuating step includes a step of providing a pulse modulation signal to a second switch connected between the first switch and the inductor. The attenuation ratio relates to the pulse density of the pulse modulation signal. So, a power loss can be prevented.
