PURPOSE: A cylinder operated by an electric motor is provided to transfer or clamp objects without installation of a hydraulic line or pneumatic line. CONSTITUTION: A cylinder operated by an electric motor comprises a square cylinder housing(10), a square piston(20), a ram(22), a rear block(17), a front block(15), a geared motor(40), a pinion(45), and a rack gear(12). At least one guide groove(11) is formed on the square cylinder housing in a longitudinal direction. Guide projections(21) of the square piston are coupled to the guide grooves and the square piston is slidable. The ram integrates with the square piston. The rear block is coupled to the rear of the square cylinder housing. The front block is coupled to the front of the square cylinder housing and guides the ram. The geared motor is installed on the square piston to be integrated. The rack gear is fixed on the square cylinder housing to be integrated and guides the transfer of the square piston due to engagement with the pinion.
