The slasher (1) has a handle (2) comprising a proximal end provided with a gripping unit (3). A distal end of the handle supports a drive head (11) to rotate a cutting edge (13) whose rotating plane defines a cutting plane of the slasher and length defines cutting amplitude. A cutting unit protection system has a cradle (6) mounted on a support (7) fixed on a distal part of the handle, where width of the cradle is larger than the amplitude. The system has an operating rod (16) connecting the cradle with a hand lever (15) and acting on orientation of the cradle when the lever is actuated. The hand lever is fixed to a proximal part of the handle.
